Data model

The underlying principle of CONVERIS is that the relation between different types of information can be freely defined. To allow this, CONVERIS offers a flexible data model that can be easily adapted to the customer’s specific needs and requirements.

It is possible to create individual information networks consisting of different information objects and relations, each with freely-definable attributes. So any possible data structure can be reproduced as well as standards such as Dublin Core or CERIF.

With CONVERIS the information network can be adapted to changed conditions or new objectives at any time, without the loss of existing information.

In order to ensure that any data can be stored in a flexible structure, CONVERIS allows object-oriented data access. The final data storage is carried out in a normal relational database.

CONVERIS is ideal for building information repositories and can be implemented with many relational database management systems (RDBMS). The most frequently-used commercial alternative is Oracle, with PostgreSQL the recommended choice in the open source area. Persistent data is accessed using Enterprise Java Beans (EJB).
